I am looking at an M Farmall that was my grandfather that passed away. I am looking to find out what a fair price would be to give to my grandmother for this tractor. The tractor is loose but does not run. I know the starter is out and both of the frame rails have been welded. The platform is broken out by the brake pedels. Tires hold air but serverly weather cracked. Tin work is all there but the grill has some dings. I think this tractor has seen some hard work in its day. The main reson I want this tractor is that I have an F-20 that was my other grandfathers that I would also like to restore and think it would be very neat to have one from each. I am very mechanical and am more then capible of doing all the work myself but looking for ideas as to an actual value so that I can keep everone happy.

I would barter something with your grandmother. She most likly does not need the money and wants the tractor to stay in the family. Say you will do some repairs that need done or something. It will work out much better for the both of you I think. Personally I got my grandfathers tractor. He had 9 and now I think less then 1/2 are still in the family (only after 2 years). I know my grandmother wanted it to stay in the family. It had a broken engine and misc other stuff but it is special because it was my grandfathers.

That tractor has seen some hard work. A broken platform is not that common!! I would start at $500 and go from there.

Thanks Kevin! Have had eczema health problems that have been totally out of control. No way I could go to the Tales reunion. I was broken out real bad. I am on a new medication that seems to have made some progress.

Paul,
You may want to check around the local area to find out what the going price would be. Because it's a family tractor and keeping it in the family to me would be cause to pay a little extra. I may be faced with a simular situation with my father's M, B, and Case 530 frontend loader. He also has a JD 630 that belonged to my Uncle that passed away a couple of years ago that I am planning on trying to keep in the family. If you don't mind, let me know how much you pay for this tractor. It will help me keep in perspective how much to pay my brother and three sisters for his. I know that two of my sisters won't have any interest in them, and doubt my brother will either. One of my sisters and myself will most likely try to keep the farm and the dream of my father's alive.

later days mate,
Jim now in NM again

Try checking with one of the local auctioneers. They usually have a pretty good idea of what the local market is for an M like you described it.

Maybe 500,since its your grandmother!Everything you mentioned thats wrong is easily replacable, well except the tranny top,its heavy.if it werent family, maybe a couple hundred.I have one of my grandfathers tractors thatwas in worse shape than that and I paid 750 to my grandmother for it,but at the time she needed the money, otherwise Imay have gave her 100 for it.Gots to take care of the older folks!

I would come up with a price that you and Grand would both be happy with.

two recent M sales just this past week,I sold an M on ebay, running with wide front repainted and old tires $1558 Then I bought one for myself, narrow front weathered paint and gummed up fuel tank bad battery and poor tires $1000. I'd guess somewhere between $500 and $900 should buy your family tractor.

Unless Grandma needs the money she ought to just give it to you so it can live on in the family. Judging from the condition you will put more into it than you will ever get out. Its great that you are willing to do this.
