I just replaced the cillinder head on my 460 diesel a few weekends ago. I was working on it the other day and as it was running i noticed i could see air bubbles between the block and head(injector side). Ive retorqued the head multiple times hot and cold and it still leaks. but when its running it doesent smoke or anything. Is it a faulty gasket or my mistake. Any clues to what might this be?

On my 560 D, after having the head worked on, including planed, I was cautioned to use new head bolts and to also make certain that they weren't "bottoming out" in the engine block, prior to actually putting the designed for "squeeze" on the head gasket.
When I checked the new bolts from IH, I thought they were too close to possibly bottoming out, so I ground them off a slight bit. Put it together per recommended torque and haven't had any problem.

The head was welded up and brought back to original specs.

I'd still confirm that the head bolts aren't too long.

I made sure the block was true i filed down the area over the bolt holes like the book said to. I also did not use any sealer. any more suggestions?

Did you check to make sure that the surfaces of the head and block are true? If either of them are slightly warped you are going to have head gasket problems.

Hi Jason,

I'd keep an eye on it, but I doubt if you have anything to worry about.

It is probably just cooking out that sealer you used.

Watch the fluids for a time, tho.

My opinion,

Allan
