I'm looking for a two row picker, model 2M-HD. Does anyone know where one is located? I have seen very few advertised, and now that I am actually looking, I can't find any. Thanks for any information you can give me, even about the picker model itself.

Where do you live? There some around here but what mountings for which tractor do you need? How far do you want to travel for one. Send e-mail

I live near LaCrosse, WI, and I would be willing to travel pretty far. I would put it on a Super M. Mountings would be great, and I believe the same mounts for M-450 will fit a SM. Thanks for the reply, and let me know where you are.

The 234 was a much better picker than either the 2MH or the 2M-HD. It is much easier to mount. Has more capacity. The snapping rollers on the 234 don't shell the kernels off at the bottom of the ears nearly as bad as the 2MH or the 2M-HD. There were a lot 234's around here at one time. Should be a few of them left somewhere. I guess it would make a difference what tractor you were going to mount it on and how much you were going to use it.

I am well aware of the superiority of the 234. Used one on an 706 and then 826 for years. I would be putting it on a Super M, and there are horror stories of 234's snapping M axles. I looked at several 234's, but the main reason I am looking is I love IH pickers, I mean love, and I would like to add to my tractor and implement collection every model of picker. I'd use the picker for fun, not farm (well, fun on the farm, I guess, then combine the rest). I'll have a couple 234's in a couple years, there is nothing that irritates me more than watching a picker rust in the weeds. Thanks a ton for the input, your points are well taken, and you gave me information I never heard of before.

Tim, If I was you I would stick to NI..... ...Sure alot easier to get parts for, atleast in my area..... ....Seems everyone here has or has had a NI mtd. picker at one point.

Just my opinion on the issue anyhow.

No, TP, it is not just your opinion. I value it much more than you know. I am looking at a 400 and NI picker, because I think I can get the tractor at a good price becuase it has the picker (sure doesn't make sense to me, but I know they'd be selling the tractor for higher price without the picker). I am a solid red fan, and HUGE IH picker enthusiast. I have never met ANYONE like me, who not only loves picking ear corn but with antique stuff and IH pickers. It is mainly for collection and hobby, not for true work, although I'll probably use it as much as I can until I need to be serious about what I am doing. Thank you so much, and it has been a pleasure to read a few of your other posts on this board.

The 2MHD was a good picker but it was heavy should be on no less than a 656 better if on a 706 the 2MH was over 3000 LBS so the 2MHD more yet then if it had a sheller must be close to 4000 LBS. Greg is right not many made.

I see Sammy has some numbers for me, and I'll thank him, but weight isn't the huge issue (although I don't know, will a 2M-HD even fit on a 706???) I have a picture of a Super M and 2M-HD, and I know they aren't that much heavier than a 2-MH, which my grandfather used for a long, long time custom picking corn. If I could find a sheller I'd take that, too. Thanks for the insight and reply.

2MH about 3500 lbs.
2MH-HD about 4100 lbs.
234 husker about 5700 lbs.
234 husker-sheller about 7000 lbs.

Wow, Sammy, thanks for the numbers. Where did you get these? Or are they from knowledge and experience? It is good info to have.

I've got one. They are a bit rare. As I remember according to Wendel's book they only made around 600 of them. I doubt that many are left in existence. They're a higher capacity version of the 2MH. Mine is mounted on an M. I used it a bit once but mine corn was planted in narrow rows so it didn't work real well.
