I don't attend a lot of tractor pulls. Have never gotten involved as I don't agree with a lot of their nit-picky rules. In my opinion just watching from the stands when certain tractors don't do well, it has more to do with operator than tractor.

Maybe because The IH has a bad clutch, TA is bad, the ball bearings are bad in the transmisson, The ball bearings are bad on the axles, and are grinding a hole in the case?

I don't know where you or your friend are pulling or whatever but there are very few instinces I can remember in STOCK pulling where a jd has beat anything maybe in the light classes around here it's molines farmalls and olivers in the top ten.

I am for the red Farmall's all the way, Win or lose . I think john-deer choose the color green, because when they break (frequently) it means that a lot of green has to come out of your wallet to fix the big ugly green thing.

I have got a 49 farmall M with a low first gear. We took a 1/2 inch off of the head and opened up the carb jetting somewhat. JD's don't beat it. Occassionally one of those bored and stroked JD G's shows up and beats it though. 95% of the JD pulling around here don't beat Farmalls.

The only thing I can offer, and it is somewhat speculative, is that it may be easier to bias the rearward weight on a JD more easily than on an IH before exceeding your pulling class weight. JD's are inherently butt-heavy. Just look at where the mass is when looking at a JD from a side view. Aren't the JD's rear wheel centers heavier than an IH's? Years ago, Dad had both a Farmall H and JD 60. Our driveway had a propensity to ice over badly in the winter in one particular spot. The H was helpless on this ice; the 60 didn't even sneeze when negotiating this patch. We attributed the traction difference to the 60's weight being more to the rear. I'm not too sure about jumping on the flywheel effect so readily. Don't forget that the Farmall has one more power impulse per engine revolution than the JD to keeps things spinning.

The only "Butts" I know that the JD's kick on a consistant basis are the "Butts" of the poor guys operating the beasts.

What model JD and against what model IH. I have an A Farmall that has outpulled Super A's, JD B's, JD 420 and JD MT's. Personally, I haven't seen an IH tractor lose. I close my eyes before that can happen. But as for the flywheel comment, the JD flywheel is a major factor. That is a lot of weight spinning helping those pistons move. But, it could be the simple fact of where the stock weighting is placed on the stock tractors. If you look at an MT, it has a lot of cast material in the rear. Many factors run into the scenario. Maybe its just the driver or driver skill.

Colekicker, I have nothing but IH tractor but, If your Farmall A is whipping a John Deere 420 then it is a long way from a stock Farmall A/

Has to do with the flywheels on them. My JD-B out pulls most of my tractors for a short ways, as long as the flywheel is going fast once it slows so does the power. And no I'm not a JD guy I have fords ,farmalls, allis, olive and JDs. I just like them old

All tractors have flywheels, that has nothing to do with it. If the flywheel slows down, it's because the engine has lugged down.

Yes all engines have flywheels, But on the JD they are bigger and heavyer then most so they keep more power longer.

What do you think if someone went on the JD board and said IH are kicking JD tractors at the tractor pulls.Ther are more IH wins in div. 2,3 and 4 then there are JD wins, just look it up. The guy was just looking for trouble, and if you don't answer he will just go away, or put it on the JD board where they can have fun with it.

First of all, I was just commenting on an observation that a friend of mine and I had after attending a few stock tractor pulls.

I don't own any JD's and also don't have anything against them. I do own a few red ones. We had a JD and an IH on the farm, both great tractors, but the JD sure did a good job in the pulling department.

I in no way meant to offend you, I am sorry that I have apparently ruined your day.

04terry:

Actually you probably made his day by by giving him something to run his mouth about.

In my area green kicks Farmalls butts on a regular basis, but its the Olivers. They have a very strong club and come to the antique pulls loaded for bear. Occassionally an M pulls out a win or two, but the Hs just don't seem to cut it.
