My advice: Take that old regulator off and throw it away! It's only gonna cause you confusion sometime later on...

Anyway the hot wire from the ammeter BAT terminal should go to directly to the ammeter + post. All the tractor accessory load wires (ignition switch feed, light switch feed, etc) should go to the ammeter + post too. The other ammeter post should connect direct to the battery + terminal (this can be via the starter switch "hot" terminal).
