You are referring to the resister in the alternator lead so you can shut it down and keep it from back feeding. I got mine at Radio Shack and we have a pretty small town so would think you could find it there. you can also use either a diode or warning light. When I wired in the one on mine I wrapped tape around it to look good, bad move that sucker gets hot!!

If this is the resistor for the exciter circuit, you can use a value up to 47 ohms.. maybe even more. This serves mostly as a current limiter. The 2 watt rating is more important - if you leave your ignition on for too long without the engine running, this resistor will get hot. The lamp serves a better purpose here - it exhibits a low resistance until it lights, and then the resistance increases when it glows.

Ditto on what Doug said if it's for the exciter for an alternator. You'll be way ahead of the game with the light bulb.
