According to the Jan 2003 issue of Harvester Highlights, the one millionth Farmall rolled of the line in Rock Island at 11:12 AM, Monday, April 30, 1951. This M had a special "1,000,000th" number painted on the hood. The assembly line stopped for seven minutes, to celebrate this feat, and also the 25th anniversary of the Rock Island plant. The tractor was sold to Clint Thomas of Mineral Illinois, who owned it till the 1960's, and is now owned, with the original painting on the hood, by a collector somewhere in the upper midwest. Wish I could see it.

I believe it was an M, there is a picture in one of my books somewhere, it had the decals relocated so that another decal could be used to identify it as the 1,000,000th The 5,000,000th was a 1066.

The 5,000,000th was not the 5,000,000 Farmall, but the 5,000,000th IH tractor total. There were not 5,000,000 Farmalls.

Sorry, I knew that, just a slip of my typing fingers -- thanks for the correction. Unfortunately many people call all the older IH tractors Farmalls, and I have corrected them -- now I get corrected, serves me right I guess. Haven't found your new book in the bookstores yet, will probably have to order it.

The millionth was a Farmall M. No one seems to know the precise serial number- it doesn't appear in any of the advertising literature. It can be narrowed down to a few hundred, but that's about it. There's a bunch of people trying to find it.
