A distributor with a 90 degree bend came detached with a Farmall H I just purchased. Does this distributor actually belong to another Farmall series tractor?
I cannot see how it can fit the H.
Thanks

I take a farmall H and mount a post pounder on the front. I then put a hydrolic pump in front of the dist. The pumps are longer than the drive spacer I took out, which makes it very tight for the dist. to fit with out the cap hitting the oil filter housing. The angle dist. fits perfectly in this space. and works well. A dist. off an AC tractor Bolts up perfectly.

Aaron,My 1942 H has a Delco distributor with a 90 degree bend in it,and I was told that it my of been a after market part and that it was used on many differant tractors and such. But when you go to get a tune up kit, don't ask for a H tune-up kit, tell the parts person that you have a Delco
Dist. Dave

Aaron: I have seen what we call a vertical distributor on many farmall tractors, mostly on early H & M's. Most of these are delco distributors but I have seen a coupl of setups made for I.H. dist, such as the M&W hyd pump(I have an H with it). Sadly I chose not to rebuild these vertical delco dist. for customers. The biggest reason being that out of 20 dist. I could find 20 different distributors with 20 different drive/driven gears-20 different points-10 different caps-etc.etc. There was way too much variability and very hard to match up to a customers needs. A second reason is I was unable to find parts other than maybe some point/condenser kits. I do keep all the vertical dist. for parts but we sell very few. Everything we sell is the I.H. distributor. I believe I rebuilt 75-80 this past year for 4&6 cyl engines. Many of these go into change over kits for customers changing from a magneto to battery ignition.

My 44 H has that style of distributor location. When I went to buy tune up parts we matched up pictures in a NAPA parts book and it just said that model was used as a common distributor for alot of agriculture and industrial use. And yes, they had everything in stock for a complete tuneup.

aaron,
That sounds like an aftermarket Delco distributor. I think they were sold to people who got tired of their magnetos and wanted to swap over to a distributor.

I THINK YOU HAVE SOME THING ELSE THERE. EVERY H I HAVE SEEN HAS A STRAIGHT DISTRIBUTOR

Not necessarily, theres a neighbor that has one like that, and I think it was on an older H. But than again it might be a change over from the mags, because they are almost like the ones used on the later Allis Chalmers WD, and early WD45's. It might be alot easier to change points on the vertical shaft distributor than compared to the horizontal shaft. Just my $0.02's.

Both types are found on IH stuff, but the right angled Delco is not nearly as common on IH stuff as it is on AC's. Both work & my C-IH dealer has parts for both in stock. We've got a couple of Delco's on SC & DC Case tractors-they work there, too. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Can I disagree without being disagreeable? I currently own 3 Hs, 2 of them have the delco, my M also has a delco, which makes me think there are just as many Farmalls with the delco as the I.H. distributor.
