Wont go into too many details on how this happened but baking soda got spilled into one of the cylinders on Mr B(SMD Im working on)which still had water in the cyliders, been too lazy or busy to get the water out.Anyways, this morning I cleaned out the water and BS and in the one cylinder that the BS went into, its so much cleaner than the other three. The rust is nearly gone in that cylibnder and Im thinking or trying it in the other three, what do yall think? My thinking is if the BS will clean up the rust to a good degree, maybe I can get it broke freee.I alraedy knowI need sleeves so what the heck? What is it that make BS clean up rust?

I have found that work on my tractors already contains more than enough BS. I certainly don't intend to add any more.

As you porbably know, BS and TSP are used regularly in electrolysis tanks to remove rust from many tractor parts.

Check out the server as there is a section on rust zappers. I don't know ifn I would put the whole durn thing in a tank, but hey, it would probably work. Sure clean up the rust.

Why not take a more cautious approach to these Magical Elixirs? Use a plastic container and some really rusty bolts- see how it does with them. Some of the concoctions I have heard of will do more damage than the original rust if left too long.

Just one more thing that I will have to try. I have tried just about everything else that was ever recommended, or suggested, including turpentine, which had no affect at all. So far, I have not found that magical, cure all product.
BS(baking soda) might just be the answer.

Since the engine is stuck anyway I can't see where baking soda would cause any damage. If nothing else it might make it so some other chemical can get into and around the rings better.

Baking soda sounds like it should be added to our list of ways to break free pistons. Just don't step in any of the BS (Baking Soda) you speak of! That's just a joke everyone...don't kill me for it.

Bob:)
