H runs again

After sitting in the shed for a little over a month, the H is running again. It needed a rebuild for a host of reasons, not the least being getting tired of having my nieghbor and his JD diesel 70 pass me when we are plowing. Marty is a great guy and a lot of help, but having to pull out at the end of the furrow to let him go by ....

I always have a better appreciation / understanding of equipment once I have had them all apart and put back together again. This is really an easy tractor to work on. Simple, sturdy, an elegant design in an agricultural sort of way. No tricky stuff. No need for an extra joint between your elbow and wrist. Except for mounting the radiator. With the same exhaust it seems quieter than before.

It is no wonder that they sold so many of them.

Greg,

Hey! That's great! Nice to get 'er purrin' again isn't it?

Help me understand here. You are trying to plow with a Farmall H and are upset because a JD 70 Diesel can outpull you?? Well, I would hope to shout!

Those two tractors are not even close to being in the same class. That 70 just has a lot more snort!

What am I missing? Or, are you talking about two JDs? They are both great old sisters, tho. :>)

Thanks,

Allan

It is a good old tractor (aside from not having live or power anything), but not anything special. I think that they were always considered two plow tractors.

We have a light alluvial soil up here. I bought the plow (JD 44) from an old guy who used it with his H Farmall too. He was working either 120 or 160 acres with it. H's are more than willing to still work for a living.

You're still pulling more plow per HP than the JD guy. Your 2-16's in light soil would match up to 4-16's for his 70D. Quit beating yourself up over it.

I'd say that's good for an H. In our particular soil, a stock H has all it wants with 2-14" plows.
