Want to set ign. timing up on my 400. I know you can tune decently by ear, but I want to do it as acurate as possible. There are 4 notches on the pulley, any idea which one to use?? On another note you can't always trust new parts. Bought 4 d-16 champion plugs for this tractor and 2 would not fire under compression. Took a couple hours and alot of swearing figuring that one out. Bought and installed 2 more new ones, ran like a top.

if you would buy an IT manual for your tractor it tells you what the notchs are.but since you have been wasting your money buying champion sparkplugs maybe you can't afford one. the third notch is 25 degrees advanced this one is for full advance setting for gasoliine tractors the fourth notch is tdc

I haven't had a gas tractor for a few years, but if I remember correctly IHC gas tractors came from the factory with champion D16 plugs and that is what they recomended for replacement.

I think your right about d-16's. The plugs I took out were about 70 thou gap and pretty rusted. Amazed the tractor still ran great.
