I know it is not a Farmall, but I thought it might be of interest to some. While looking for Nebraska tests on IHC W tractors, I came across a Nebraska Test on the "Farm Jeep(Formerly called Universal Jeep Model CJ-3A)". I also found a 1952 ad for the same. Just curious if any are still around. It had hydraulics and three point hitch standard and optional pto and belt pulley. Nebraska Test # 432, Oct 25 to Nov 2, 1949, 24.32 db hp corrected db hp 25.45, 28.43 belt hp corrected belt hp 29.79, 2148 max lbs pull @ 4.25 mph. I knew Jeep made a "tractor" version but I never saw one. Just curious if any are still out there.

There was a pretty good article in Antique Power recently about the Farm Jeep. They had a lot of pictures with various attachments.

Seen one in the early 50's that a guy used to bale hay with using an Allis round baler. As a kid I thought it was neat.

I have a '48 Willys jeep with monrow 3 point hitch and PTO it also has the front bumper weight. The hydraulics are live off the front of crank. It also has a belt drive govoner. The gears are 5.38 , same as all jeeps of this era. The springs are much stiffer than standard jeeps. I have drilled a lot of post holes with it and it's nice because you can use reverse to back the auger up. I have played with a 2-14 Ford plow but a 2-12 would work better. I hope this answers some of your questions.

At our fall show there were about 10 Empire tractors that had jeep motors. A very cool little tractor.

Late '60's a neighbor had one. He came to borrow my dad's 7 foot MF 3PH disc. Got it all hooked up and started to lift it, all it could do was barely raise it, worthless. A neat toy, though.

Harold,
I have some old ads from the 50's that show pictures of a Jeep with a three-point hitch plowing. Also have photos showing the PTO they had on some of those things. Pretty cool Jeep. Love to have one, but I'm pretty sure I can't afford one just to play with.

I've got a 48CJ2A with a PTO. My Great Uncle,Alex Olson, bought it new and it was used to spray wheat feilds around Martin,SD. I inherited it when my dad died, and it had never been titled until the county sheriff told me that I couldn't call it a farm tractor anymore and I would have to license it to drive it on the roads here in Nebr.It only has 10,000 miles on it and is geared pretty low,top speed is under 40MPH. The standard early jeep ring and pinion gearing was 5.38. I'm not sure what the gearing was on the farm jeeps. The farm jeeps had different data plates, etc... and were even available with a front end weight between the frame rails.

This is from the implement photos page on this site. There is another shot on there that shows the sickle mower. I wish it was mine!

I have a 46 CJ2A with a PTO and belt pulley. The 3 pt hitches were made by Monroe I think. They also made Jeeps that had sickle mowers mounted on the passenger side that mounted where the passenger seat goes. Mike Hanley over on the JD forum knows some about them, also do an internet search for willys farm jeep and something should come up.

Do you know if the 3 point hitch was after market or factory installed?

The hitch, apparently made by Monroe, was installed by Jeep at the factory. The agriculture Jeep also had a lower gear ratio than the standard Jeep.

Yup, there's still some around. Haven't you ever seen a Scout with a three point hitch?

Guy,

I've seen pictures of Scout with 3 point hitch and literature for hitch but have never seen one. I sold Scouts for several years but not a 3 point hitch for one. The hitch for the Scout was an aftermarket item to be mounted on a standard Scout whereas on the Farm Jeep the hitch was factory mounted and the Jeep had lower gearing than a standard Jeep. Maximum speed of the Farm Jeep was 31.3 mph. Also the Scout never had a Nebraska Test as a tractor.
