As a teenager, I operated a Cub with a belly mower for my dad, who (a)always ran a custom mowing service of some sort, and (b) was always buying/selling/trading tractors and equipment. So I've run a sicle mower, a Woods 59, a Woods 42, and a Mott Hammerknife flail mower, each for hundreds of hours. Which you want depends on what you intend to cut. The Woods 59 is an excellent finish mower...and that's about all. If you need something to cut small brush too, the Woods 42 is an excellent choice...and, if you keep the blades sharp, the finish cut will rival the Woods 59. The Mott Hammerknife was the best finish mower, but if the grass is even SLIGHTLY wet, you'll get less-than satisfactory results. My opinion is, the Woods 42 is the best ALL-AROUND choice...and if you've ever changed blades OR belts on both a 42 and a 59, you'd probably agree with me. If you plan to leave the mower on the tractor indefinitely, and all you want to do is lawn-type mowing, get the 59...unless you want a golf-course, manicured sytle lawn, in which case the flail mower is the only way to go. Just depends on what your needs are.
