Getting redy to split the clutch housing from the transmision. You can see into the tranny after you take off the belt pulley. Looks like the transmision driving gear off the TA is chewed up some. There is a chunk missing from the constant mesh gear and the 2nd and 3rd slidding gear has a tooth missing. Thats all I could see just looking quick. Looks like I get to learn a little tranny repair also.
As for the TA with that driving gear chewed I better just order a rebuilt TA. Crud I cant wait to see what the bull gears look like.

What you guys think. Could this be the cause of the clunking shound?
Also wheres a good place to get some used gears?

Kelly. check Jensen Tractor over in Askov. He may be able to help you out. Have you looked into Faust(sp) in Pierz for TA?

Not yet you have a Number?
I will check Gotvald implement in Hilman,MN to.
Last time I was up there they had a bunch of parted out Farmalls.
Actually there must be alot of parted out Farmall 400's out there. I put a add on this site for the gears and have gotten about 25 RE:s so Far.

Kelly;

I have the rear portion of a 450 that I would part with for a reasonable price. I've taken the TA, brakes and PTO out. I haven't touched the transmission or bull gears. Give a reply if you would be interested. I'm in Colorado, outside of Denver.

Thanks!
Ernie Bob

That sight looks very familiar. I had to repace the TA in my '55 farmall 400. Depending on how far away you are, i may have a place where you can find very good used gears. I got the bottom of the constant mesh for my '41 H for $25. I would avoid taking the deck off of the tractor until completely necisary. If you are going to replace the TA, e-mail me for some ideas on how to hold front, middle, and rear section of the tractor at once. It's always best to do everything at once so your tractor is only apart once. I would drain the transmission oil and put new in. Mine had over a gallon of water in the rear, and frove up when i was putting it all together in the wintertime. I would also get a new gasget package for the rearend. if you do, e-mail me if you get an extra one with 12 holes, i did, and can't figure out where it goes. My e-mail is jeffg245@hotmail.com

Doesn't look good in there! The shame of it is, most of those pieces have probably been run through other gears, like in my H.

I would check with some of the salvage yards listed over at atis.net for used parts. Of course steelwheelranch.com has tranny gears on the shelf ready to ship, according to their website.

Hope the bank account is ready for this one! Good luck...

I was reading my IT manual. Does not look like its too tough to do.
Tearing the Tractor down peice by peice is the hard part and thats almost all done.
Putting all back together...well we will see how that goes.
