I worked in a mill/elevator the summer of '61. My memory is bit hazy on wheat price but I'm fairly certain it was about $4.85.
I was being paid $1.00/hour and gasoline was five gallons/dollar.

As a young boy, I recall seeing the invoice for the new Farmall MD my Dad purchased around 1949. It was about $3200, big money in those days and several hundred dollars more than a Gas M, I think. I also recall my Dad being very upset when the diesel fuel price went from 8 cents to 10 cents a gallon. I think gasoline was around 18 cents. For light work such as raking hay, the MD used less fuel than the Super A.

Wow. .10 a gal for diesel.
Just curious. What did a bushel of corn bring at market in those days?
I know my Gramps was getting about $2.50 a bale for hay in the late 70's about what I get now. Maybe more now if really good stuff.
I can see why a pro farmer needs to have some real big equipment to make any money these days.

As a boy, I rember in the early 50's loading up the pickup with wheat straw bales and taking them to the brick yard where we got 25 cents per bale. The brick yard used it to place between layers of bricks in stacks for shipping. If I remember right the guy who customed bailed for us got 10 cents per bale, we raked it and with hay also cut it. Cut the hay and wheat stubble with a McD #9 pulled by an H, Grandpa drove the H and I worked the lever on the #9.

I don't recall the price for a bale of hay in 1950. However, I do know that we paid 10 cents per bale for custom baling. We did all ourselves except the baling. For some reason, my Dad never owned a baler. Always had it done by someone else. Probably because there were 3 of us and that was not enough help to do it all. We put up more than 5000 bales every year and filled three silos.

Would have taken a week and 1/2 worth of your wages to pay for the rebuild on a H.
Its funny some times. I have more in my H now than what it cost new.
