Can anyone tell me the year or serial number cutoff between the old and newer style radiators used in the H's? I need A new cap, and I'm not sure which one I need. thanks

the easiest way to tell is if the cap is spring loaded and the filler neck looks like the one on your cars radiator it is a pressure system.

Easier way,look at the rad,or old cap.If it tightens on the outside on the neck,its the pressureized cap,if it locks on the inside,like the gas cap,its non pressurized.Or better yet,just look at the old one!

In my parts book it says,non-pressure radiators were from SN 501 to 115029. The early fasteners were from SN 501 to 49749.

I believe the pressure radiators were first used in 1943. On my tractors the non pressure cap is same as fuel tank cap only has water on top. On mine gas cap will fit non pressure radiator but not pressure radiator.

The dzus fasteners do NOT determine whether or not the radiator is pressurized. Dzus fasteners were used in early 39 letter series tractors.

My 42 H serial number 101821 has non-pressurized radiator with regular bolts. I don't know for sure when the cut off was, but I believe it was a few serial numbers later than mine.

An awful lot of the older nonpressurized radiators got replaced with the newer version, so knowing what year the change took place might not do you any good. The easiest way to tell the difference I think, would be to take note of what style of fasteners hold the grille to the radiator. If yours has the dzus fasteners, it is the nonpressurized radiator. If, on the other hand, it is held in place with common hex head bolts, then you have the later pressurized radiator. There are some other differences also, but this is the most easily recognized way.
By the way, the dzus fastener will have a slot that you can put a screwdriver in.
