I'm currently trying to sell my 1956 Farmall 100. I'm asking $4000 but will consider anything reasonable. My 100 is fully restored. Has new tires, paint, electrical, lights, and ignition components. It runs like a watch so I didn't bother messing with the engine. The sheetmetal is in excellent condition and all the emblems are there. Basically, everything is close to if not perfect. A guy has offered me a 1940 John Deere B in trade. It looks to be a very nice B. The sheetmetal is very straight and I was told it runs like new. What do ya'll think? I just bought a Farmall 450 "fixer-upper" and am having the motor worked on so I'm not sure I need any more tractors at the moment. Any comments would be great. Thanks.

Reid

Reid: What hitch does your 100 have? Around here 140s will bring that kind of money with fast hitch, but the 130 and 100 just will not do it for some reason. My opinion is these offset have never been worth a whole lot of money without 2 or 3 attachments. If a prospective buyer buys without attachments, it will cost a lot of money to find them. I have 14 attachments for these tractors. It scares me to even think how much those attachments have cost, and the years that it took to find them. I'm not through yet.

For whatever reason, the original owner discarded the 1-point fast hitch, and I wasn't told why. But I did receive a spring tooth harrow and a bush hog with it. The hitch that was on it was poorly made, so I took it off. The spring tooth will work with a little ingenuity and thought, I just don't have the time to put into it. The tractor is very clean but I do see what you are saying about the 140, they are very hard to come by around here because everyone holds onto them. Hopefully somebody will take the 100. I'm open to all offers.

Reid: A bit more on the value of 140 versus 100 and 130. I truly can't understand this one, not uncommon to see 140s priced from $4,000. on up. Yet you can't seem to touch that with a 100 or 130. If you look at numbers 100 and 130 each about 15,000 copies and 140 somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 were built. So the 100 and 130 are the rare ones. I find there is some technology on 140 that I don't like as well as the older ones. In my opinion 140 just doesn't have that solid quality the earlier ones had.

I don't know what John Deere B's go for, But anything green is usually high priced.

There are a lot of variations from one part of the country to another, but $4,000 would be high for a 100 in my neck of the woods. IMHO
