I pulled the manifold off and snapped a bolt off i nthe manifold. Finally got the manifold off.

I removed the Rocker assembly and started removign the head. OH, before i pulled the head I ran a compression test. all were around 65 psi. Didnt right it down, but steadily at 65. Added oil to each cylinder and no change.

Anyway pulled the head off and it has the fire crater pistons. They look NEW! The sleeves are as smooth as silk! No movement of the pistons in the sleeves.

Remember how I said the block had been brazed on the left side. Well apparently it happened in side too. There is what appears to be a srip of Silver seal from the bolt holes between the 3 & 4 pistons up to the 3 sleeve, across and down passed the 2 sleeve, and down to the bolt holes between the 1 & 2 cylinders. There is a tiny hairline crack right in the middle of the silver seal job.
Im wondering if it was silver sealed, then decked and the decking revealed the sealed crack, which is no problem. OR did it get silver sealed, then crack again? Is it ok? Is it the worlds largest paper weight now? But NO OIL in the water and no water in the oil.

Im going to take the head and have it boiled, and have new valves installed, and have new seats put in, new guides the works! There is alot of carbon build up in the combustion chamber. only 1 plug was fouled.

Im still perplexed about the Distillate/Gas set up.

I have a Zenith carb with a petcock in the bottom in the back (by block) for draining the bowl, it has an adjust ment needle on the front of the carb facing out. And it has an adjustment facing down at an angel on the top. Choke rod goes on carb, near block. Float has 2 seperate bouys. IS it distillate or gas?

Intake has rounded/squared runners. But has a box in the middle. Is it distillate or Gas?

All distillate carbs, regardless of brand, have a drain petcock for the gas, and a adjustable main jet. Yours could simply have a cap over the jet, since it runs on gas -- the jet could have been changed, also. The gas carbs have a removable plug instead of the petcock. According to my parts book, the easiest way to tell if you have a distillate or gasoline manifold is that the exhaust pipe on the gas mainfold screws in, the kero/distillate exhaust pipe is held on with two studs with nuts. The dist manifold does have what you described as a box between the intake for #2 and 3, the carb attaches to the manifold by a flange only about 1/2 inch (guessing from diagram), below the manifold. On the gas mainfold the carb mounting flange is a 2-3 inches below the manifold, and the "box" as you describe it is tapered, rounder, and narrower. The distillate/kero head has a part number of 261 295 R2 or perhaps R21. A gasoline head will be either 355 046 R2, or 366 299 R1 or R11. Don't pay too much attention to the numbers attached to the R, as they all interchange, or are upgrades. ANY or all of these parts could have been changed on your tractor, or you could have any combination, depending on who did what.

Hey, the head is a gas head acording to your numbers.
The exhaust stack screws in, so it must be gas as well. The Carb definatly has a drain cock on it, so it must be the only part still ditillate. IT has the Hi rise pistons, gas head, and has gas manifold. But hole in hood and Distillate carb.
So if I put a new Fuel manifold on it, and tune the carb right, it should run ok on gas? What octane? 93-89-87? Need a lead additive?

Distillate engines run fine on gas, just less power and lower compression than gas. Sounds like you have a gas engine anyway with the exception of the carb. Seriously doubt you will notice the difference. Regular unleaded, additives are worthless. If you have a gas manifold, why change it -- is it cracked?

Cracked, and nearly rusted away.
