Hi, I pulled the head off of my C today (different topic) and found that the pistons were of the firecrater variety. They have 2...err..hills in the middle with a crater under the plug.

Are these the Stepped pistons? or the Standard Flat top? Where can I find valves?
Are these the high comp pistons?

yes they are high compression. flat top pistons are exactly that; Flat Top.

So, firecraters were in the Distillate tractors? If I were to run pump gas full time with firecraters, would it damage the engine?

Firecraters can be put in any fuel engine, but they were specifically designed for the Gas Cylinder Head, so technically, there will be little to no net gain in HP when a set of Firecrater pistons are used in conjunction with a distillate or kerosene cylinder head..

So, the heads were different on kero engines too?

So far IVe figured this much out.

Its a Kero/dist engine originally.
It has no small tank, but has hole in hood.
HAs Dist. Carb
Has firecrater pistons
HAs alot of carbon in it.

I would not put a bunch of money into head work until I knew it was a gas head. It does not make sense for someone to put in domed pistons and use a low compression head, but I am sure it has been done. 65# of compression is kind of low - sounds like about 4:1.

On the H's there are casting numbers on the head that indicates if it was kerosene, distillate, or gas. C's are probably the same. The casting numbers for C gas heads are 251172R or 351649R.

Hey, I cleaned the junk off the head and found a number. Its the 351XXXXX Number. So its got Hi-Comp pistons, Gas head, Dist/kero carb, and Dist/kero manifold.

Ill patch the hood, Get a Fuel Intake, and use the kero carb, seems to be more adjustable.

Go find a 154ci combine engine out of 203 combine,, same block and such,, has good cyl head, carb and intake too. heard you can get 45 hp out of those engines,, ChadS
