Hey i got a C, with a 113 cid engine. Ive worked on cars some and every cooling system ive ever worked on has had a radiator that the water came in on the side, and went across the radiator. On this tractor the water comes from the top...goes down and apparently out the bottom. Where is the water pump, and how do you get to it? How do you get the crank pulley off top take the timing cover off?

Does this cooling system have a Thermostat? Where is it? Is it pressurized?

Take off the lower water outlet from the block and the water pump will bolt to the same place. Get a new fan belt for a C with a water pump and go for it nothin else to change.

So it doesnt use a Thermostat? Why wouldnt it have come with a Pump? How does the water move now, with no pump? On my car when the belt broke, the pump stopped..the temp skyrocketed! Why would a tractor be anydifferent?

Tommy, confused..in fl//

As was already explained. The hot water rises in the block and out the upper radiator hose to the radiator. As the water cools it sinks to the bottom of the radiator and back into the bottom of the block. As long as the radiator is in good shape and the water ports in the block are clear it will cool the tractor without a water pump. It will keep it cool enough even on very hot days. If you put a water pump on it you would also want to put a thermostat in it. Otherwise the operating temperature will never get warm enough for it the engine to operate at the best temperature. These tractors have been operating for over 50 years without a water pump. Unless you plan on working it really, really hard or in temps greater than 100 degrees you shouldn't need a water pump.

It doesn't need a pump. If block and radiator is some what clean. I guess this means that if you can see the water bounce up down in radiator, or it does't come flying out the minute you put a load on the tractor. I put a pump on Dads B once but after repairing it regularly (because of noise and leaks) I took the pump off about five or six years ago. Only difference I can tell is not having to fix pump.

Tommy, the C has no water pump, but you can add one to it. It is a thermosyphon system, with the hot water leaving the block and entering the top of the radiator. As it cools, it falls to the bottom of the radiator and circulates back into the block.

Darn, iwas afraid of something like that, What exactly is involved in putting a pump on? I mean exactly what am I going to need to put a pump on?
