My friend has a 5088 and we were discussing a leak on the tractor. My question is his right side rear axle seal is leaking, is that just a cap with the seal behind it? Can you do it by just removing the rear cast and tire and slide that cap off? The leak is getting worst-hytran ain't cheap either.

Thanks guys.

Remove the wheel and pull the drain plug on the bottom of the RH axle housing. Take off cap and replace with the new, improved seal. If you don't drain the housing, you will get a nice oil leak.

Follow the instructions on the seal kit too for proper install of the wear sleeve. Also retorque the wedge lock wheels and the RE-CHECK their torque.

good idea on those wheel wedges is to keep a ratchet for them in the tractor and check them a few times a day, accidentily slid a wheel out about 4 inches on our 1066 when we put new (luckily long) axles in it

Thanks for the answer, I think I am going to try to talk him into bringing that into the shop to get done-don't think we can handle that cast hub and a 20.8 filled with fluid. Seems like a bad situation to me.

Thanks again.

Chad, use a forklift. I have done a few. Just make sure that the tractor is blocked WELL.

Thanks for the advice on the forklift idea. We thought about using the neighbors Bobcat with the forks but my friend wasn't to thrilled about that. He decided to bring it in in March. Winter here in Wisconsin-don't need it right now.

Hey let him spend his money, it isn't my tractor. He is talking about replacing all the hy-tran too 45 gals?-easy $1000 out the door. Wish I had money like him....

Thanks again.
