I'm looking at a 706 gas. Said it was overhauled about 100 hours ago including the carb and governor. Runs good, I cranked it full and shoved the throttle down quickly. It smoked just a little but didn't smoke when started or when speeded up. It also sounded like it was racing too fast when at full throttle and I don't know how to tell if that is normal. It didn't seem to idle real good after running at full speed. I wondered whether the governor was OK. It's a nice looking tractor, but I don't know what, if any, problems there were with 706's. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I've had one for years that I use for a chor tractor. Wide front end and loader. This has been one of the best tractors that I have owned. Starts on the coldest mornings, have had very few repairs in the last 36 years.

I think it uses too much fuel to be useful. Anything over about 50 hp should have a diesel or you will not use it much due to fuel consumption.

I check my timing and valve tappets on a regular basis.

Using 93 octane gas is a must and mine seemed to be hard on valves, so I had all my valves changed (upgrading technology) and mine has run the best it has ever run for the last 200 hours (since I had my valve job). Good Luck
