Im at the point now where I have yet to be able to free up the pistons, although Ive only had them soaking about a month or so now.I have had the head rebuilt, only to make sure it was good before I went any further.I can sell the head now for 800 which gets all my money back in it and the tractor, but have wanted this tractor for many years now, since I found it back in 90 and my buddy bought it and got scared as I am now.I can get the sleeves and all,but would like to save the pistons.,and I dont want to pull the engine until I can get the pistons out,or at the least loose so Ill know it can be rebuilt.I am also worrying now over the injectors and the pump as I understand it can cost upwards of 1500 for those to be rebuilt. My questions are:Does anyone have a way I could get the sleeve and pistons oput at the same time,I hope to be able to gt a first class machinist brother of mine to put the on the horizntal band saw and hopefully cut the sleeve of of the piston.,if I can get the whole thing out.Second question,is there anyway I can bench test the pump to see if its ok.I understand itll be better if I have it professionally done, but at this point,I dont want to spend any more than I have to.I thnk you for your opinions and advice.

If I were sure of the money, I'd sell in a heartbeat and watch for a better MD. You would still have yours for parts.

I'd say sell your head for $800, and buy my head, injectors, pump, and pistons for $700. -Greg

go onto batescorp.com and check there prices for new pistons and rings. if the cylinders are scored then the pistons are no good either you would save yourself the time and trouble of ripping the engine down twice. send the pump and injectors to a injection shop and have them tested or a diesel repair facility. it would only cost a hundred or so to test the pump. I turned down a md because of the pump but don't let it scare you when you get it running it is worth it. my smd sat for 25 years and runs like it was brand new and I even havent adjusted the valves yet. good luck that tractor is worth every penny when done.

Fill the cylinders with vinger it is a mild acid and will eat the rust right out of there might take a week or 4 but does work and will also loosen the rings from the pistons think you will be happier if you dont beat on the pistons

If the head is off cut a piece of a wooden corner post about the size of the piston and place it on top of the piston and hit it with a hammer. If you have soaked it for 30 days and the penetrating oil has reached the rings it should break loose.
