Start by verifying that it's full of oil. Change ALL the hydraulic filters, and while doing that, look to see if there's any significant amount of metal fillings in the filters or housings. If there is a significant amount of filings, better tear into it, and find the source, as the damage will only get worse the more it is run.

If the filters are reasonably free of metal, and replacing them does not help, it's time for a factory manual, some hydraulic test gauges, and probably a Flowrater. There is a detailed diagnostic procedure for narrowing down the specific problem based on pressure and flow tests.

P. S....

Failure of the driving disc or splined hub on the engine flywheel is a possibility, also. Did you lose your hydraulics and PTO also? (If your tractor is equiped with a PTO)

Thanks for the reply. No, I didnt lose PTO or hydraulics. I have a front end loader and it works fine. The PTO also works, but I have not used it under a load. I recently (2-3 months ago) changed the oil and filters. It has worked fine up until now. My manual (IT shop manual) does not have a troubleshooting solution that matches my problem. I'm from around Houston, TX and need a good mechanic or the name of a good shop manual.

I own a Diesel 656 Hydro and have experienced the exact same problems once that I had the fiberglass housing off. This can be very scary. I had to readjust the housing and everything was fine.

Get an original IH manual, (or copy).

Your CNH dealer should be able to get you one, or check with w w w . binderbooks . com, or look on ebay.
