Any way to increase the output with the stock generator?

Check the RC or reserve capacity rating on your battery. It's the amount of time it can drain at and still produce nominal voltage. Should give you an idea of how much use you can stretch out of it with your current setup. If you're using the lights for 1 hour versus 4, 5 or more hours of no light running (meaning charging time) you could probably save yourself the hassle and expense of an alternator.

Remove the generator dust band and look inside for the 3rd brush. It will be the brush that doesn't have a mate exactly 180 deg opposite on the commutator. Now look for a long, slotted head screw on the outside end of the generator near the 3rd brush. Loosen the screw a couple turns - this will unclamp the 3rd brush holder. Next carefully rotate the brush holder CLOSER to the nearest fixed brush, but leave 3 commutator bars showing between the two brushes. Finally tighten the clamp screw and you are done. Your generator will now be set at maximum output and should deliver somewhere between 12 and 16 amps at full RPM.
