After looking at some pictures and replies on this site (THANKS!!) , I have determined my Farmall H swinging drawbar must have been shortened many years ago (It only sticks out maybe 6" on the other side of the U drawbar). Did the H swinging drawbar and U drawbar have problems? Could it have been shortened for a reason? I was wondering if I would be better off getting one from a M because they are thicker? Will the swinging drawbar from an M fit ok? Should I go strap or roller? Thanks!!

First off, the main wear point on any draw bar is the draw bar pin holes. My guess is, that is what happened to your swinging draw bar. Someone pulled the pin hole clear out after it wore thin. To fix the problem they most likely cut the swinger shorter and put a new hole in it. That would explain why it is short. The U shaped draw bar might interchange. I have never tried it, but would guess that it would. Now then, the M had a factory option of a thin, or thicker U shaped draw bar. I believe the thin was standard for the H without the option for the thick. The swinger for the M is simular but different. If you do some messing around the M swinger will fit the H but clearly does not fit right. It is longer and has extra ark in it. The roller on the swinger was an option, and is better because it reduces slide wear.

John: Your swinging drawbar, should be when in the center position, 15" from end of pto shaft to center of drawbar pin hole. That is what all trailing pto equipment is designed for. Anyone claiming these drawbars can't be switched from one model to another has very limited imagination. Sure there will be some slight modifications and maybe the belly mount on an H is different from a 560. That same U was used on a lot of C, SC for mounting semi mount mowers. There are two different thickness for the U, same was true of swinging tongue. Length of tongue varies also. The C obviously used different axle housing clamps from H or the M. I have a 300 swnging drawbar geared up to fit my Farmall 130, about the only thing I didn't use was the axle housing clamps. My 130 is equiped with one point fast hitch. When using I just drop the pull bar of hitch, mount the 300 drawbar and bingo I'm in business for pto work. I used this on a pto manure spreader for years.

This is really not rocket science, most good welding shops could build you and H or M drawbar better than the factory original in the forenoon.

drawbar may have been shortened because it was worn, Its usually not a ploblem unless you use the pto a lot. just re-enforce it with a piece of 3/4 x 1.0 flat bar down the center.

M & H drawbars are not the same h drawbar is a couple inches shorter. If you want to make it stronger just reinforce the H drawbar

I've never heard of any problems with them. I'd just get one off another H; anything strong enough to break it is probably better off not attached to the tractor anyway...
