am I correct in thinking that the hydro pump controls all the hydraulics in the whole tractor? from what I have read it does, here is what I found out today, I took off from cleaning my barn and went out to check on this tractor, its a 444 gas, this is the deal, it has dual remotes 1 set in the back, and then a set heading to the front on the left side under the floor board,, I think at one time this had a loader on it,, well I got it running, I have hydro power to both the remotes,{I hooked the tractor to my log splitter that works off my other tractors hydraulics, it worked slow , not enough gpm, but worked steady}, I have power steering which is working great, I just have nothing when it comes to the 3 pt arm, I have tried all the knobs in every configuration I can think of.the isolator knob, the fast slow knob, draft and lift, and never get anything,, The little shaft that would control the draft is going in and out, but it does not seem to go in all the way,but not sure if that would cause the not working at all,I am at wits end here , I know I am going to fix this but any suggestions where to look first, could it be as simple as a relief valve?? thanks pat

There is a small orfice tube in the same housing that has the flow rate and isolator valves in it. these can plug up and cause the lift to not work. It is behind one of the plugs facing the front of the tractor. Sorry I can't remember which one though.

Manual says:

Won't lift in either position or draft:

1/ System overloaded (sound like yours is OK). 2/ Pump drive failed (no you) 3/ Regulator piston stuck in open 4/ Relief valve spring broken 5/ Isolating valve closed (not you)

Will not lift on one control:

Faulty control linkage Plunger binding (position control)

Hi, many years ago we had a 434D which is older version of 444. As I remember there were 2 hydraulic control knobs in front of the seat. One was marked fast/slow, this reduced the flow of hydraulic oil to the 3 pt. hitch cylinder from 6 to 3 gal/min. The other was closed/open, this controlled the flow of oil to the 3 pt hitch or remote cylinder. In the open position was for the 3 pt. hitch cylinder, closed was for remote.
This tractor had 2 stacked hydraulic pumps. One for power steering and the other for 3 pt. hitch etc. On the Diesel the pumps were on the front right hand side of the motor running off the timing gear. The 2 pumps were bolted together. There is a filter in the suction/return line for 3 pt. hitch/remote reservior at the front of the seat. Since your log splitter works on the remote then your pump is working but would appear that open/close valve is in the closed postion.
For normal operation of 3 pt. hitch, draft control level should be fully forward and should only be used for plowing or harrowing etc.

Happy New Year
JB

Lot's of ways your 444 could be piped up. However, I used to have a 424 and I think if factory and not changed they would be the same. The way mine worked, there was a valve that you had to switch to use the reomote. When it was set to remote, the 3 point did not work. When set to 3 point, no remote.

My 424 was sold several years ago, so this is from a hazy memory, but I recall there were two valves. One was a shut off valve that closed off the 3 point. When you closed it, the 3 point was locked in position and would not go up or down. (That is if you had a good system with no leaks in the cylinder, etc). I think there was another valve to open to send fluid to the remote. Also my 424 did not have PS, so it may have been different. That was a really good tractor and I would likely still have it if it had PS.
