Hey guys,

I have a 350 with bad points/condenser and possibly a bad coil and I have couple of quick questions:

1) Who is a good supplier for the points and condenser?
2) I have heard people talk about putting an electronic ignition in. How would someone do this? What parts would I need and what are the installation steps?
3) I want to install an alternator, but I don’t want it to interfere with the sheet metal. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? I would like to call around and find one on my way home from work.

Thanks

Andy

An alternator can be installed on your 350 without interferring with sheetmetal.Buy a Delco alternator.Use the generator brackets already on tractor.Alternator will bolt to bottom brkt. as far forward as it will go(on outside of brkt.).You may have to use a bushing behind alt. to align pulleys. Some '80's Oldsmobiles had alts. with double groove pulley, this will aid in aligning pulleys also.Top brkt. can be reshaped(bent)to fit top alt. attaching bolt. Alternator will have to be adjusted to 1/8-1/4 inch away from valve cover in order to clear sheetmetal. You can then measure for belt length, because I can't remember it at the moment.Belt is somewhat troublesome to install, but it's not something that has to be done often, thankfully. I have seen this method used over the years with good results. You'll be well pleased with 12v conversion,we currently have an 'M' and two 300U's that have been converted & give no trouble. If I can be of anymore help e-mail me!
