below zero, tractor won't start. About to make up my mind to not spend another winter here. I just can't take it anymore.

If ya want a good OLD WINTER tractor then get yourself a good old 706 GASSER them old things will start even down to 35 below with a good battery and good tune up but ya got to let them run for a bit to warm up and ya have to keep the hdy oil clean and filters changed , got all of my old dairy farmer customers running them as the winter chore tractor and they leave the diesels set till spring. They have enough power to grind feed haul bale and the manur clean snow And they start every time.

My 706 gas has started right down to 10 below which is the coldest it has been sice I bought the old girl. Choked her and she fired right up. Of course I still have to use the choke when its 90 plus to.

It was 22 below this morning and i just have a lower radiator hose heater on my 706 Gasser and it fired right up this morning. Left the 560 Diesel sit.

Cowman,I have a friend who has a antique tractor and when It gets cold he uses a electric burner off of a kitchen stove hooked up with a thermostat and clamps it to the oil pan with a peice of flat metal over it.

When I was stationed at Offutt AFB in the sixties I would take my battery in the house on below zero nights and cover the engine with a blanket while it was warm, I would put the battery in remove the cover and I cant remember it not starting,my car that is,I didnt own any tractor then. Both my tractors started today but we dont have the below zero stuff,you all keep it up there. Ed

You've probably read in the original F-20 owners manual where it recommends that if it's going to get real cold that you drain the oil into a container while it's still warm from use in the evening, and take the oil in the house with you for the night...then pour it back in the tractor the next day! Never heard of anyone acutally doing this but in this kinda weather it makes sense!

The only way I would ever concider moving south is in snow bird mode.
Been in GA in july once. Only once.
Now if I could figure a way to bale hay all summer up here in MN then flock down to Texas in the winter and bale hay. That would be grand.
They do bale hay in the winter down there dont they?

Nobody bales hay around here this time of year, but lots of folks bale pine straw now (garden centers sell it for mulch).

25 below zero F here this morning in ND. Tractor fired right up becuase the tank heater was plugged in. Mom's car started just fine in the heated garage, Dad's pickup started too because it was plugged in. Everything has winter oil in it so oil pressure comes up quick too.

Just takes preparation for the season, I'm used to the 80 below wind chills too. Just wish the snow was more predictable for snowmobiling!

Dont you like the change of seasons. I like going outside on the tractor then coming back into the nice warm house, while my woodburner is going.

nothing personal - BUT - it was 72* here yesterday. in the 50's now. sposed' to get down to aroud 238 tommorrow night. personally- ya'll are welcome to the 25 below temps. i'll take our 100* with 905 humidity summers instead. wade - by the way - when it is that cold how do ya'll heat your house.

Your furnace just runs a lot. That is when you wish that you would have taken the time to spend some money and add some more insulation. It is hardest on the vehicles. The oil gets really thick and takes a while to get enough oil pressure to get it to the top of the engine. I just cringe when I hear people starting their cars and then rev the engine up. Adds a lot of wear to a good engine.

GM NC, Last winter we got down to -37 F in East Wells,Vt. Froze two pipes on my northern exposure wall. Personally when it gets down to zero or colder I cant tell the difference :). It will only last for awhile, be patient.

yes, I know and the sun will be shining. I got it running now and will let it warm up. Need to get 2 new batterys. Our Club dinner is tonight and I did not want to make a special trip to town. I'll leave the charger on it tonight if I think it is going to be cold. I just hope the Allis starts when I get up on the hill. There is no electricity up there.

It is a pain when the tractor won't start.

Still about -10 and breezy here, and they say the next few days will be colder. Too dry to snow. With our bare ground, this cold weather is killing a bunch of potato bugs and other pests.

Told the wife this morning how cold it was in GI NE. Glad were not up there.

Retired,sold out and moved to the south of NM not too far from the Rio Grande. We dont miss the bitter cold and snow. 28 here this am and about 60 now. 2:30 mst.

I know how you feel, I'm getting tired of chipping the ice out of the stock tank. Haven't started the SH recently, but we plug the 400 in and it starts right up.
