Farmall 200 has a noisy/rough running water pump.It does not leak and works ok. Can they be economically repaired---or is it better to buy a new one. EBay has a "new" one for $75.00. Not made in USA though. Thanks for your expertise!

Thanks for the excellent input. I'm leaning toward replacing it.

I used to do the waterpump rebuilding at a Deere dealership. It would be a rare occasion when the charge was less than $75 for rebuilding a pump. Price of the kits or parts plus $40 per hour adds up fast. Often more parts are needed than just the bearing and seal e.g. and i.e. the impeller and pulley. I used to rebuild the pumps on all my equipment, but I don't think it's worth it anymore if you can buy a new one cheap. Waterpump just went bad on my Ford pickup with the International Harvester V-8 engine. NAPA had a brand new pump (made in China) for $51. For that price, it's not worth trying to fix the old one.

Pappy: You can buy a kit, but it will cost as much as a rebuilt. Problem I have found with these, is sometimes they have rebuilts on hand, other times they have to send your core away. I paid $134. for a kit, $25. to have it installed. On another tractor it was $135. for rebuilt pump complete with pulley and a 3rd tractor was $80. to have it sent by auto service store for rebuilding. Those are Canadian dollars, and the Kit and Rebuilt were CaseIH parts.

Mickey: I already know what your in for, you definately need a press and even then you will probably break the pulley. That's why I recomend rebuilts. If you please note, I paid a guy $25. to install the kit, and yes he did break the pulley. He did replace the pulley.

Hugh, you are correct, unless you have a hydraulic press, 9 times out of 10 you will break pulley or casting.

Go for rebuilt.
