I had oil on the brake bands of a 46 H so thought I would replace the bull pinion shaft seal When I removed the brake drum it was severely scored and the 2 pulling points on the cage were broken. I have removed the nut holding the bull gear and the 7 bolts holding the axle carrier to the frame but can't separate it. Is there some secret to removing the axle? Also how would I pull the cage without the 2 pulling points?
Thanks in advance

Ellson After you have the cap screw out of the inside end of the axel take the flat washer off put the cap screw bavk in the end of the axel put a short piece of shaft between the cap screw of both axels and screw the loose one back out it will push the shaft out as you screw the screw out. would not have had to take the housing off.

Thanks Aces Your idea worked great Didn't take 15 minutes to get the bull gear off and then the cage pulled right out

Ellson; One trick I have learned tearing apart junker tractors at a salvage yard is to grab the axle at the very end and wiggle it up & down as you pull out on the axle. This method worked 9 out of 10 times. Make sure you have a pallet or wood blocks for the axle & housing to fall onto. If it hangs up, more than likely the splines have a bur on them.
