I just foud a book titled "FARMALL Letter Series Tractors" authored by Guy Fay and Andy Kraushaar. In the A & B chapter they state, "Orginal BNs are scarce machines." Can anyone shed some light on just how rare these tractor are? I see there are only 37 in the registry, soon to be 38 when mine is running. I guess I just didn't realize what a find I had in the little machine. For an update on our progress, go to:http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4172298&a=31018970&f=0&vt=vp&pw=

It takes a lot of heart and cash to tackle a job like that. Have you considered looking for a donor tractor for parts? How far along are you on the resto?

I'm still doing the tear down phase. I'd be working on it right now, if not for this darn cold that hit me yesterday. I actuall feel pretty lucky about the whole tractor, even though the sheet metal is shot and the engine sat full of water. The engine can be repaired and the sheet metal can be replaced or repaired. The trans, diff, and final drives are all in GREAT shape. If the engine had not been sitting without cover, it probably would have started. The only thing I could find wrong the tractor is in the trans cover, I can't get in into 3rd ad 4th gear after cleaning the shift rails, they must of retired it because it was only running in 1st and 2nd.

I'm rambling, see the link to a possible "donor" tractor I found about 12 miles away. I should be bringing it home in a coule of weeks, if all goes well.

I've heard comments like that before, but I'm not discouraged by them. This is my son's first restoration/tractor, so I'm in it to the finish! Besides, I like the little tractor. I have found a model B that has the needed parts, I hoping to bring home it in a couple of weeks, see the link.

I'm in Nothern California, about 2 hours north of San Francisco (depending on traffic). I'm sure that I'll want to hang on to everything until I'm finished. Where are you located and what parts are you looking for?

There were a lot made- but a lot of them have had wider axles put on them to use more common B or A implements- I just saw a yard full of farmer modified BNs with B axles a couple weeks ago. So there aren't too many ORIGINAL BNs out there, but not a real scarce tractor.

Thanks Guy, my son and I are having a great time restoring this tractor. I have visions of it being a parade tractor, my son wants to use it around the property. Any idea where I can find implements/attachments to fit it here in California?

I really enjoyed your book, it will be a great help with the finishing deatils.

According to a Red Power Magazine article acouple years ago, there were about 15,000 BN's made. In my neck of the woods, BN's are not uncommon, in fact, there seem to be more BN's than B's around here. The first tractor I ever operated was my grandfathers '47 BN.

Where is your neck of the woods"? Are there any attachments for a BN to be found?
