Adjusting Spacing on 1066 WFE

I need to narrow the front-end on my 1066. I have 3 holes showing, and I need to go to 2. I'd bet they haven't been moved since it sold new.

What's the best way to loosen up the tubes and tie rods?

I was told I should keep everything soaked with penetrating oil for a while, then loosen all the clamp bolts and drive it around a while.

Any suggestions?

Mitch

Mitch: I doubt that a 1066 will be all that bad just yet. Most of the troublesome front ends I've run across have been set for close to 50 years. I think if you had some heat present for stand by, shouldn't be too much trouble. I would try it first anyhow. Driving around with those bolts loose on a Super A is one thing, that big tractor could shear a bolt.

If I were doing this I would pull all right out and lube them well. I always spray paint them with graphite inside and outside. You might want to move them again in 50 years.
