Agree with all the previous posts but one other way is to remove drop axles on rear. Wheels will then bolt on like regular tractor and tractor will have 5 foward speeds. No internal transmission changes were made on high drum pickers. Front wheel will have to be changed to regulat height wheel of cource.

If you remove the Hi mounts as they were called it will be just like every other M. (( and the front fork ))

I changed it on my highdrum tractor. It is quite a job. You have to flip the differental. You will have to remove the rear axles to get the bull gears off so you can remove the bearing holders. You will have to find a deck with the shifting rails on the right hand side and move the gear shift and rails to the right side to miss the ring gear.

Right side looking forward? Or backward? Shifter is on the left side of the platform, only probably need to remove the finals and long fork, arn't those finals on a M high drum gears?
On the later 300's and 400's there is a second mounting plate on the right side of the cover to put the shifter in for cotton picker use, also you would need a different set of shift rails to go in the right side, these would have to be changed back to the left side to convert back to a tractor. I think that the M is done in reverse with the final gears and would be easier to convert.

Buddy is correct. Your biggest problem is probably going to be finding a reversable transmission top. Also, don't forget to turn the guide wheel around so the caster will be to the rear so the tractor will steer correctly. If you leave the guide wheel mounted as it was under the cotton picker, it will steer wild.

I may be wrong,, but you could possibly flip the differential carrier so the ring gear is on the other side of the pinion. or change the ring and pinion. just my 2 cents.

I asked a man who owned an M with a picker on it this question once. His answer was "you flip the ring gear to the other side of the pinion." It made sense to me. MT Pockets.
