I have talked to one of my fellow pullers in my area, and he said that he has found a combine motor that would drop right into my 560 gas. It needs an overhaul pretty bad, but she sounds good. Only 50 horse on the dyno, with massive blowby. My questions, would I have to change the radiator to keep the motor cool? I plan to pull it, and use it around the farm. How much would a used motor possibly go for? She would pull excellent 1st torque back in the 10000 weighing 10100 pounds, without killing the motor. Any other things that I will have to look out for, or change?? Feel free to offer any advice you may have. Thanks!!

Not sure why you would be pulling it in the 10,000 lb class. A 560 weighs a lot less than that. You won't have the cubic inches to be playing with the 806's and 1206's. I know a guy that can get his 1206 down to the 8500 lb class. It is missing a few critical internal parts. You should be able to get down to at least 7,500 lbs.

I run 15-5-38's, and they are full of calcium chloride. Fronts have it in them too. With the fast hitch, she won't pull anything w/o weight on the front due to the fast hitch. I like it up in the 10000 pound class cause the 400's, 450's, and heavy weight John Deeres like to play with over a 2000 pounds of weight them to get there. We don't allow anything that wasn't made prior to 1960 to pull. As long as it looks stock, your legal to pull, although there are people that run stoker cranks, and what have ya.

If it a gas model engine,, If you retune the carb to give it fuel,, it should not get hot. Unless the thermostat is sticking, or the wrong temp range, ignition timing is off, or something internal is wrong, a properly tuned carb that will not allow a lean condition in the cyl, it should stay cool. Heck, that 460H has that 403 engine in it, and I have an H radiator hooked up to it, and I have ran it on the dyno with a 190 thermostat it runs about 185-190 degrees. And that was working it kinda hard. Just my 2 cents,, Chad

How much do you think that a motor out of a combine would go for if it is just out of the field from harvesting last year? I honestly don't know, but I noticed the engine that you have for sale ChadS in the classified ads, and was wondering what your opinion would be. How did you get 403 cubes out of a IH 6 cylinder? Bored it out? Thats a good size engine, lol. I have heard that the combine engine will give me 70 horsepower at 1800 rpm's, but at 2400 rpm's, I should have around 96. Is this true?
Thanks!!

A good running 6 ctl is from anywhere from 350 to 800, just depends on ci,, look around for a 503,, has the 282 in it. Gas models,, they are every where, and a coulpe of hundred bucks buys scads of them. Hope this helps, Chad
