More M advice needed

Got my M starting in cold weather now. Problem is, just noticed that the main belt is slipping so bad it isn't charging. I tried some belt conditioner and that didn't work. I also tried loosening the pin in the driveshaft pulley and that won't budge. Is the easiest way to change the belt to remove the radiator and then the fan pulley? I don't see any kind of adjustment for the belt tension. Are these belts easy to come by? Sub-zero windchills persist daily. Any adice (as always) is appreciated.

Use a lot of PB Blaster to loosen the pulley and a lot of patience. The outer sheave of the pulley turns out toward the radiator thereby widening the pulley space to remove belt. Heat ( a little) may be necessary to loosen the lock screw in the side. Good luck. Use antiseize to reassemble it.

you can change both belts without removeing either the fan or the radiator. both the fan pulley and the generator pulley are a split sheeve.

both can be replaced without removing the radiator or shroud. on one side of the pully there should be a stud with a nut and a slot in it for screw driver. loosen the nut and back the stud out. clean the threads with a wire brush and use some penetrating oil.. makes the job easier.then all you have to do is hold one side of the pully and turn the other to release pressure off the belt or reverse to tighten. hope this helps. good luck

I just changed mine and I had to losen the water pump bolts a little to drop the shieve enough to get the belt on.

Thanks to all for the help. I had to get a flashlight in there to even see that bolt. Looks like it hasn't been removed in decades, so I've got it soaking in penetrating oil. Got my fingers crossed that it will come apart. Hopefully get it apart next weekend. Now if this sub-zero weather would just give me a break.
