From my H Parts Catalog TC-27E.

"(1)Part Numbers. In cases where the part number suffix letters have been advanced, the new part will replace the old unless otherwise indicated. For example: Cylinder head gasket 43 988 DF will work for 43 988D, DA, DB,DC and DE." "(4) Partial Assemblies and Complete Assemblies. You will find that of the some numbers are followed by the letters "X" or "Y". The suffix letter "X" indicates an assembly of parts which may be a either a partial or a complete assembly. The suffix letter "Y", in nearly all cases, indicates a complete assembly. For example: 43 917 DAX Exhaust Valve Lever, L.H. with Bushing is a partial assembly, whereas 43 917 DAY represents the foregoing with Adjusting Screw and Nut 'added', and is a complete assembly."

Hope this offers some enlightenment, Sid.

A call or visit to your local Case/IH parts department should help you with this. These people get paid for knowing this sort of information.

That is a confusing subject to deal with. I am currently writing an article about this for Red Power Magazine. I guess to answer your question, it would have to be yes and no. Depends on what model of tractor (specifically year of production), and part. Early production(pre 1939) used the base part number for the specific part, and the suffixes not always interchanged. Later the parts would interchange lates suffix for earlier suffix. A confusing mess that not always holds true in both examples.

I'm going to guess at something I have no knowledge about. The Super A (C113) and Super A-1 (C123)use the DA gear. The C which had the C113 uses the DB gear, I suppose the 200 and 230 do too. RPM is higher on the C than the Super A, and probably on your 240 -- I don't know, just something to consider, in case justin doesn't answer.
