Slappy;

I was only able to find one size of needle & seat combinations. Can you believe I.H. wants $40 bucks for the needle/seat/gasket!! I only dimly remember perhaps one other Carter carb I worked on which was larger than the normal Farmall models and my guess is it went the way of the scrap iron tubs. My options for you are the same as I stated for Mr. John(greasy), so I will refer you to his post. Again, any information I can help with feel free to post. One of these days I may actually be able to help someone!

I have a Carter carb that has given me nothing but headaches. i bought a rebuild kit ($80) from IH dealership and it still works awful. I have to have a rubber ,allet to bang on the card to stop the needle from leaking and I always have to shut off the gas before I go in because it leaks. I told the Ih guys and they said that they are known for doing this. My jet screw is barely seated because the bowl is bad and the threads are almost gone. What did you suggest to Mr. John?

Thanks for looking rebuilder! I have an unusual Carter carb, but have been able to find all of the parts but the seat. I believe that the unit is original (everything else is). I think I will try a little grinding compound on the old needle and see if I can't "hand lap" the seat and needle to and stop the leak. If you want to see some pics of the carb, drop me an e-mail and I'll send em on - I can't seem to get pics to post on the forum. You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks.
