I have a 1947 farmall A and when i parked it is fine and i came back a week later to start it and it would only start by pushing in the clutch, i thought the brakes may have frozen to the bands since it was below freezing, so i let go until it got warmer and rocked the tractor back and forth freeing the wheels and i kept messing with ptp lever and now it will start and run but a get a faint clanking when i drive it, any pointers on what may have happend or what caused this, also is thier any web sites that show and tell about the implments. thanks alot john. napa, calif

You have water in the transmission and it froze and busted the oil slinger gear as they are made out of a light material. Take off the top lid of the transmission and check it out.

Probably water in the transmission or final drive causing the sticking and noise, happens a lot on these older tractors...
