IH 444 With a Loader--Front Pump Required???

I would like to put a loader on an IH 444 and have been told that the hydraulic pressure produced by the tractor is not sufficient to run power steering three point etc, and a loader. Advice I've been given is that I should mount a front pump to run the loader.

Anyone have any experience with loaders or the hydrualics on an IH 444. Thanks.

Hi, had a IH 1500 loader on 434D with power steering from 1969 till 1981 then traded for 384D with 1550 loader and power steering. Neighbor had 444D with 1500 loader and power steering.
The 3pt and power steering have separate pumps on these tractors. The pumps are ganged together and run off the timing gear. The trick is in the correct plumbing into the 3pt hydraulic system. On our tractors they had replaced the output line of the 3pt hydraulic pump so that it went into the loader control valves and then to the input of the reservior under the seat and the dump line from the loader control valves was Ted into the reservior filler plug behind the seat.

Don't put a 2200 quick attach loader on theses tractors as they are to heavy for this tractor. The 1500 series loader worked great on these tractors.

Good luck
JB

I own a 444 and have worked with 2 others. There is only one hydraulic pump on the engine. A priority diverter valve provides hydraulics for the power steering. My 444 also has a front mounted pump and a 2050 loader, works great. But my friends 444 runs his 2000 loader from the engine mounted pump and it works fine.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping to be able to move a large round bale with the loader while moving a bale with the three point hitch. Sounds like the front pump may be the way to go.

Hi again, if the loader is plumbed correctly as I described both the loader and 3 pt can be active at the same time. There were other cheaper methods of plumbing the loader where the Remote outlet was used in front of the seat and the ON/OFF valve at the front of the seat was closed.
If this method was used then only the loader or the 3pt hitch could be used depending on the valve setting. One of our other neighbors had a 444D with a non IH loader on it and it was plumbed the cheap way.

How heavy are your round bales ? Connected to the 3pt hitch pump the 1500 loader will lift about 1500 lbs or more if you add a dime to the relief valve in the loader controls.
But unless you have sufficient weight on the rear the rear end will go in the air. Also the front end was not build to stand 2000 lbs.

The round bales are about 1500 lbs. If I mover a round bale on the front and one with the three point hitch, will it be too much weight for the tractor?
