Will a IH 1501 Front end loader work on my IH 404 tractor? I would like to put a front end loader on my tractor but dont know which ones that IH made that would work on my 404.

Hi, Hugh is correct 1501 was designed for UK made B275,B414,434,444,384. There was also a 1550 model but I believe the only difference was it had double acting cylinders on loader. I believe there was also a 18xx model that fit on the UK build 454,574,674,584,684. It had the same loader frame but different mounting hardware.

JB: I believe you are right that 1501 became the 1550 shortly after 1968. The other one I see in the 68 guide is the 1701 and it is listed mainly for US built tractors like 504, 544, 606 and 656. Of course in that same guide are the 2000 and 2001 loaders for larger tractors

The next guide I have is a 1975 and the loaders are indeed 1550, 1850, 2250 and 2350.

Looking at the configuration of the 240 and the fact IH advertized the 1501 for MF 35 and 50, it should be possible to mount a 1501 or a 1550 on a 240 utility very easily, with some minor fabrication. The part I always liked about those loaders for a lighter tractor, it was compact, light, etc. You could pull the pins and drop the bucket for field work and you hardly knew it was on there.

BB: The 1501 loader is shown in the 1968 IH buyers guide, it was not a new loader at that time. That was also the last year of 404 production. It is a neat compact little loader. In the buyers guide it mentions tractors IH 275, 414 and 434. It also indicates the MF 35 and 50. Then it goes on to describe the loader for 50 hp. That all doesn't add up. I have had a bit to do with these loaders and can't see why it wouldn't fit a 404 utility, may take some modifications. They are a tremendous lifting loader for their size. My neighbor had one on a 444 and it would pick up a ton on a pallet. Now you had to be awfully careful, lots of ballast on the three point.
