Just curious to know what some of you folks have used to fill in rust pits in sheet metal on your tractors. I'm trying to salvage a couple of original fenders. While they arent rusted through, some of the pitting is I think too deep for finish fillers. Also is there a good product that doesnt require adding a hardener?

Remove all the rust you can, and use body filler, with hardener. Be prepared to do a lot of sanding. Some people recommend using epoxy primer first. As far as the hardener, you will get a faster drying harder finish. You can use spot putty for the pin holes that will occur in the filler. I sometimes use Eurosoft, it is a little easier to sand and has fewer pinholes. Don't understand why you don't like hardener -- it's not like the stuff you mix with paint.

Best thing to use is a filler primer, it's a lot of work but it will give a much better job.

We use a product called Icing. It is extremely workable, and requires a hardener. On less extreme pitting, there is another product called Thin Ice. It works reel goo for small pitts, and too uses a hardener. The fillers which require a hardener often set up quicker and allow less time before you can shape or sand. Glazing putty can be used for the final coat in some cases, but i try to use as little as possible.

I haven't heard of those products -- where do you buy them?

Check with your local auto parts stores, or even auto department in discount stores.. Many carry some body repair kits.
