Need one for '40 M that my grandfather bought new.Working at restoration. My M parts manual says I need # 55013DXM which looks same. I don't have a H manual to check the number to see if they are one and the same. Can anyone help. Maybe Cowman has found a buyer. Thanks Much

That will not fit a 1939 H with the correct '39 PTO. The '39 styled PTO has a mounting base that is perfectly round, thus it will only accept a shaft guard that is held on via two studs that hold the PTO base to the trans housing. The PTO Shaft shown is for the PTO with the triangular base. I'll try to get some pics to illustrate the difference shortly.

Here is a pic of the 2nd style of pto that IH produced for the H. Note that there are cast iron ears that project on the sides and on top (giving the PTO base a triangular shape), these ears allow the PTO shield that is in question to attach to the PTO base.

Justin,
Do you know any more about this style PTO? Like what year it was used? I have a PTO assembly like this, with the small shaft. I didn't know what it was supposed to fit on. I do see that mine attaches to the transmission shaft with splines, and not the earlier notch. Anything you might know would satisfy my curiosity.
Thanks,
SGT K

Here is a pic of the correct round PTO for the 1939 H. Note it does have the shaft guard.

I think what you paid is about right, the one on e-bay has a very high starting bid.
