Saginaw 3 point

I have a Saginaw on my C and am very pleased with it. Considering one for my Super H. The pictures I have seen show the lower arms touching or nearly touching the drawbar. Does this present any problem in lowering the implement to the correct depth? Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch sells Cross 3 points -- says it has its own narrower drawbar, and that the arms clear the loop. You cannot use the swinging part with the Cross, and it only uses one hyd cylinder instead of two like the Saginaw. Costs about $100 less than the Saginaw (not important to me if it's not as good). Anyone have one of these?

I have a SMTA with a 3 point very similar to the saginaw. I have had to remove the swinging drawbar with some implements as you say the arms will come down against the drawbar. Perhaps it could be dropped down a notch and be ok. It was fine with my rear blade but I had to remove the drawbar to use my plow, field cultivator and a 3 point disc. The arms definitely don't go down as far as on some other tractors. Depends upon implements you have I guess. To me it is worth it, If I need to remove the swinging drawbar it only takes a few minutes.

Since the H does not use rockshafts, it would not have that problem, but I don't understand how the C drawbar could interfere, unless you happen to have one like the H--It must be a really lousy fit. Thank's for telling me. I have never heard anything bad about a Saginaw,

The Cross hitch has a piece which ties the two sides together which is supposed to (If memory serves) run under the factory swinging drawbar. The only way I was able to leave it on was to remove the support bolts from the drawbar support and leave them out with the drawbar raised all the way up. I called Cross, and complained but never got a real good answer. The sad part is that it is "almost" a good design, and with a few minor changes could be a good usable hitch for the $$. I think I only paid a little over $400 for it and I was able to pick it up fairly close so I avoided shipping costs. I tried to save a buck, and am paying for it, as I have $400 in a hitch sitting under a tree right now.

Come to think of it, the pictures I have seen of the Saginaw show the swinging part of the drawbar very close to the piece connecting the 2 sides together. I believe on their web site the swinging drawbar is actually under the U shaped part. Pictures in Red Power Magazine show it installed correctly, however.

Whoops -- Their web site shows the swinging part on TOP of the drawbar -- no one has mentioned this so I assume the picture is wrong.

Perhaps I better clarify myself. I have a "Cross" brand and not the Saginaw. Not sure if you misunderstood me to say I had problems with a Saginaw. I wish I had purchased the Saginaw after all the trouble I had.

No misunderstanding -- I have a Saginaw on my C, and I had to loosen the drawbar to get it on -- forgot to mention that in my previous post. With the drawbar reattaced the cross piece barely clears, but barely is enough.

Saginaw is a good 3pt.hitch, I have mine on several tractors, including SM,MD,WD9. Never had problem with not going down far enough.

I bought a Cross for my C and I have one word....don't. I have kicked myself ever since I put this thing on. I honestly cannot say whether the ones for the H or M would be better, but I can honestly tell you the one for the C/Super C is a pile. It uses the arms that go up to the rockshafts and I broke one of those the first 15 minutes I used it after struggling to get it to mount up. They say you can leave the drawbar in place, but mine would not mount with the drawbar in any of the factory positions, and ended up having to leave the bolts out of the drawbar mount to allow it to raise up enough to mount the 3 point. Also, it does not provide enough travel. If you get it where it raises high enough it will not lower enough. I definetely am not happy with the Cross unit and wish I had sprung for the Saginaw unit. I currently have the 3 point removed, and have mixed feelings about ever putting it back on. One of the slickest 3 point setups I ever saw on a C was homemade. Not sure how well it worked, but it looked factory.

I put a Saginaw 3 pt. on my super H last year. The only implement I've used on it was an auger. Yes the depth is somewhat limited. The drawbar prevents me from running it down to the gear box.As somebody else mentioned the drawbar can be let down a notch.

The quality of the Saginaw is top notch. It took me about two hours to put it on my tractor. Not counting going after hoses. So far I'm very pleased.

I am thinking of a saginaw for my super H for bush hog, blade and sickle mower. Would you see any problems with that arrangement. I would still like to use drawbar.

Have a Saginaw on a model H. Have not had any problems lowering implements such as mowers, boom pole, and scoop. Have not attempted any other type of implements.

CNKS, I have one on a 300 that I got from a local dealer don't know the brand name of it but it sounds like the Cross you are describing. I like it and it will handle anything I want to pick up with it, I did change the drawbar that came with it as the new one didn't look real strong and didn't hook to the belly of the tractor so I used the factory drawbar and made a bracket to support it(you have to take off the original "horseshoe" shaped bar to install the 3pt). Feel free to e-mail if this doesn't make sense. Brian

Sounds like it -- I don't particularly like not being able to use the swinging part -- thanks.

I bought one for a 300. I had to drop the drawbar one bolt notch. It still allowed the 3 point to drop plenty far. The arms on the Saginaw seems so long though. A pair of wheel weights don't hurt a bit.. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the Saginaw, and was very easy to install.

Thanks, looking at the pictures, I don't believe I have anything that has the 3 point on the implement that low -- will measure drawbar height and compare it to the hitch on my bush hog.
