I have a 434. Like everything about it 'cept
the contraption filled hydraulic unit. Loaded with
pivots, control arms, witchamacallits and a couple hundred 1/4in sized parts to make it all work. Any one of 'em ready to make the whole thing fail if not in sync, damaged or dirty.

Right now I think I just found the problem with my lift. The draft spool popped it's "C" clip and came out of it's cylinder. This allowed pressure to the regulator that causes the lift arms to go full up with no response from the position control lever.

If that's not the problem I figure it will be easier to isolate the piston and cylinder by threading and tapping screws in the escape orifices and simply buying a single spool to get me power up and fall down with no draft. (Implement draft gives a far superior furrow anyway).

Only thing I recommend is keep your oil clean
and baby the 3pt else you'll be playing "find the
1/8in spring" on your shop floor.

I would say 3-4 thousand in decent working order but not restored. If really nice or with front pump and nice IH loader maybe 5 thousand.

Hi, we had B414,434D,384D which are same frame as 444 just different sheet metal. The BD154 Diesel engines were a reliable 40HP and cheap to run. The only down fall was glow plug starting and required a very good battery and block heater for really cold starting. Brakes require yearly maintainance, cleaning, lubing rollers and deglazing the disks. Good utility tractor but to light for loader tractor to handle 1000 lb round bales. The other got you is Lucas electrical system but if assembled in U.S., it will have the Delco system.

My 2 cents

JB,
My 2444 has a 2050 loader with seperate front pump on it, loaded rear tires and has a nice homeade 3 point weitht bracket that weighs about 2,000 lbs. I makes a good loader tractor then. I can lift a junk F250 pickup with it onto a flatbed. You are right though without the weight it won't go anywhere with anything in the bucket :) This one has been used this way since bought new in 68. Still going strong.

I have a 2444, which is an industrial model 444. They are good little tractors. They come either in gas or diesel. If you check the sn plate on the right side of the clutch housing a British built model will have a B in front of the sn and a US built one will begin with a U. I believe they are of british design. The US built ones will have Lucas electrical stuff and a US built one will have Delco electrical.

Oh I forgot to mention that 444's were sold in both AG and Low Boy configurations. Just a tire/wheel change thing.

Ben, you are correct there was nothing wrong with the loader lifting capacity. Just had to keep a cultivator or some 3pt implement on the rear to give it traction with a heavy load in the bucket.
