Brad: If that loader has been on a 544 or 504 you will probably have to lengthen the frame going back to the axle housings of your tractor.

I once bought a complete farm with 656, 504 both Farmalls and a 2000 IH loader. Loader had been on 656 when new. The owner had cut 6" out of frame on each side and mounted it on 504. I wanted to put that loader on 560 Farmall, thus had to weld the pieces back in. He had actually saved the pieces. I think you will find the 2001 loader same as it applies to length of tractor.

Stan: The 2000 loader that I had used the same front mount for 560, 656 and 504. It bolted on just a bit different for the 504. I'm a bit rusty on this but likely 560 and 656 were a bit wider on that front frame. As I said before we welded the 6" sections of 4x4 back in and the mounting for 560 and 656 were identical. I moved it from 560 to 656 one winter as 656 had cab and I thought comforts of cab would be great for snow removal. I also bought an 84" snow bucket. (used) We had exactly 4" of snow all that winter. I could have shoveled the snow in less time than it took to change the loader.

Hugh's right,
the loaders came ordered to a specific tractor model with a different length frame and different brackets depending on the application. I believe it has a 4" box frame out to the rear that you could extend if needed. The model 2000/2001's all looked the same, but the 2000's actually heavier duty with different bucket attachment points and two instead of one bucket tilt cylinder. The hyd bucket control was an option on the 2001 [many were trip bucket], but I think standard on the 2000. I recently sold a tractor w/ 2001 to some guys in PA. It clamped up under the rear axel and had brackets that mount to the bolster up front. Not all applications used the bracket under the belly, mine didn't and it was set up for the MTA/400/450. If I can be of help let me know(remove the 222 from the email addr).

Stan: I responded to your post, put it in the wrong place, responded to myself. I guess I have been outside plowing snow too long this morning without a cab. I wish I had that 656 with the 2000 loader back right now. Plowing this winter with 130 my driveway is down to 12' wide with 4 to 5 feet of snow piled on each side.

Hugh,

I'm also looking for a 656 loader - everyone around these parts talks Westendorf 30's or 40's

What is your recommendation for a yard tractor that sees a little field use.

Eric

Eric: I am a poor one to ask about loader tractors and yard tractors. In 1972 I bought a Case 1737 Uniloader, three years later I bought a second Case 1737 Uniloader. Within a year the 2000 loader was removed from my tractor, packed away in shed and never used again Skid loaders did all my loader work on a 500 acre 100 cow dairy farm.
I put a 1,000 hours per year on each of those little loaders, on manure, silage and round bales. I had a gas 300 that never left yard much. With this setup my tractors were always free for field work.

When I bought these loaders new a new 656 or 666 was close to twice as much money as the skidloader. When you think about the cost of a tractor by component, a draft controled 3 point hitch and an Independant PTO are a lot of equipment sitting around doing nothing. In a livestock operation the machine that is hardly ever out of yard is toast in ten years from manure, cows, etc., may as well keep it cheap.

You keep this up and I'll have to stop complainin' bout how cold it is here ;) We've had snow and ice down here the last couple weeks, but just dealing with the last few ice spots and soupy roads after warm temps this week have done their work. I haven't owned 560 or 656 but looking in the books seems they are very similar as far as frame/engine(6 cyl's)/rear-end, so that makes sense that the loader mounts would interchange. When I moved a Kelly loader from a 504 to a Super H I had to remove around 8" on that frame. Part of that was because the 3pnt on the SH wouldn't allow the frame to hang out the back.
Keep the fire goin up there. As much as I enjoy riding the tractors around, this time of year I think it runs a close 2nd to thawing out at the wood stove!

Yes it will. Just saw a 656 Hydro today with a 2001 on it. Looked like it bolted right up. Kind of a low-slung loader, though. Wouldn't be much good out in the woods with that cross member slung way under the belly like that. Looked rugged enough, though.
