I have changed, again, points, condensor, rotor, cap plugs and today wires and new coil.Same problem I had yesterday, skip on #3.I can pull the wire off from the cap and see just an intermitten spark. When there is a spark the plug fires,no spark no fire.It only does it on #3.I have verified all my new parts are good by putting all of them seperatly and then toghether on my M and it runs fine.I have taken the prats from my M and put them on the H and still get the miss on #3.This is not the vavles or a fuel problem,I dont think as I can visually see the spark jump, when it does jump, from the cap to the wire and hear a difference in the engine when it does fire,So my question is,is there anything in the distributor that would be specific, other than the lobe for the #3 firing position? My next step is to take off the distributor on my M and try it.

If you have a timeing lght try the timeing we have had cases such as yours were the time was just off. If that is not it there is a gear in there that you might have to take the distributor off and see if the gear is worn if so ic could be rounded and skip that fire and not the others. But I seriouly think it is the timeing.

Bushings or bearings for distributor shaft may be so worn that the points are not closing or opening for #3. Swap distributors with your M.

Might try setting your points extremely close or wide. Might work one way or the other. Bet it is the bearings.

You thought that it might be valve related at first, how about a flat cam ?

If you hook an inductive timing light to #3 and watch it, what do you see when it starts to miss? If you see the miss, the only thing that you have not changed is the distributor.

i think your distributor is probably, "running out" so bad that the gap, when it rotates twards #3 changes, causing the shaft not to run true, just a thought. Pull the darn thing out and see how sloppy the shaft is, change it out with your m good luck!!

I had that happen to my SH,, I found it was a short in the distributor, I replaced the whole thing, and it ran fine, It would run on all 4 when I did not connect the wire all the way on the plug. Hope this helps, Chad

sorry i don't know any history. i had the same problem w/ a 706 two months ago. the head gasket was burned through between two cylinders. have you done a compression test? once again i haven't followed any previous posts so if already done i'm sorry!

Yes, A leak of some sort could also cause it, could be a vacuum leak, or a head gasket. Double check everything!! If it has good even compression, it is an electrical problem, swap the distributor with the M, see if it changes. I would possibly say, that the insulator that comes off the pionts, that the wire hooks on to, may be arching from there to #3, Hard to say,, Chad
