Found an Allis 190 w/ cab, needs a little TLC, new tires, wheel weights for $3500. Gotta do it, guys. Gonna look at it on Mon. Need something for this year that's big and heavy for loader work. The old H is still staying no matter what and maybe next year I can trade the Pumpkin in (along with some $) for a nice 856. Don't hate me! I'm still a red blooded American farming with red tractors!

My heart's in red but I had some money burning a hole in my pocket and we needed another big horse- so I bought the neighbor's 7580. Sadly, it will outplow the 3788, both for speed and traction. For the money, I can't complain, and the way the economy is going, sometimes the color of the paint has to come second to the cost when buying newer iron. I will admit if I had the chance and the money, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 4w-305 after using the 7580 for a year now. Knew of the location of a 7288, only 19 escaped the torch when case took over IH, they had the Magnum rearend under them, $54500 was a little steep though compared to $8500.

I don't know if it is true elsewhere but in my area the color definitely determines the price. Green sells for a lot more at auctions. (not oliver) Red is next in line. You can sometimes get a lot more tractor in an AC for less money. I worked for a guy who had a bunch, 7040, 7060, seemed to be good tractors.

It's what got me into Red to begin with. I had two JD A's, and I loved them. But I got far more than what I had in them when I sold them, and it seems that parts costs have doubled over the past 5 years. Red is increasing, but I see myself as being on the right side of the rise (for once) for now. I can see a time in the future when I move to AC or Olivers. Fords never did interest me much, but they've got a loyal following too. In fact, about the only tractor I don't like is Kubota (no offense Kubota owners). But they're modern anyway. Zak

The thing I like most about the Tractor Folk is that they appreciate all tractors, regardless of brand. Even the "evil" tractors, such as the Happy Farmer, get interest. In fact, I'll bet most of the folk on this board have had more than one tractor brand at one time or another. I've got a 1945 Case VAIW and a 1951 Farmall M. I'm eyeballing a Case VA and a Case LA (LP gas) that have been sitting around the neighborhood for years.

Wish you the best with your LP. I have gone through several brands from 25 to 100 hp in gas, LP and Diesel, and the biggest headache was the LP. Not that she didn't burn clean, she just was tempermental to start....never knew where the sweet spot was...and in the summer hotter than haydees....winter that part was great....was totally inlove with the fuel truck (nurse tank).

Troubleshooting the LP system, when you had a problem, was a real bear too....and then there was the nurse tank (300 gal) you had to lug around and then you had to call the LP truck, and then seems like you spewed out half your fuel trying to get the tank full in summer...and on and on..... This was on a JD 4020. I later acquired a 4010 Diesel, advertised to be 10 or so hp less. It pulls circles around the LP and just sips Diesel....like the tanks are 40 gallons and the LP had to have breakfast and lunch while the Diesel could skip a meal for a day at a time doing the same work...I'm talking about plowing, not putting around.

Hey riverrat- Do whatcha gotta do, you know? I think every tractor (except maybe the Fords, which nobody likes) has it's own merits. I've owned green and red and there is definitely orange in my future at some point. Life's to short for me to keep only one color horse in the stable! Zak

Hey Zak,

Be kind to the animals. I have 3 (utility) Fords but I keep them in perspective. They are the handymen around the place and I can't think of anything handier. However, when I have to go to the field, I get out the green.

Around my neighborhood, dealers for only 2 colors have survived: blue and green. Sorry but IH is here no more...and yes I have owned 2 reds.

Not a problem buddy.

It's interesting to see the brand loyalty on here and to understand why; seems everyone has a different experience and you have to understand which one fits you. It's a good education and a good guide for the next time you want to make a purchase.

Orange is a whole lot better than green, We'll let you stick around. Friends don't let friends drive green tractors.

Green is something i probably won't have, I've tried following the gear patterns in them things. thats why my grandpa went red. However I do have a freind whose parents would probably like his old b or g or whatever deere put together and pulled out of their basement..... ..

Unless its a series 3 I would not touch it with a 10 for pole as the saying goes. The older ones have tranny problems. I sold one this summer because it was just to big for what I needed By the way auction price for them is only $2500 in my area
