My Super M has oil all over inside the clutch cover. It looks like motor oil but I'm not sure. The clutch itself looks OK but on the housing all around the clutch is dirty. Is this normal? Thanks for your help.

Just completed clutch job on my smta and bell housing was in just about the same condition as you describe. Some seepage from the rear main seal is normal and slings onto the bell housing, then clutch dust sticks to the oil and there you have it.but tou should not see any drips from the holes in the inspection cover.Paul.

53 Super, Could be the rear main seal is shot allowing motor oil to drain down onto the flywheel and then when you run the tractor it centrifuges out onto the inner walls of the clutch housing. Or, could be that someone over greased the throwout bearing and it is slinging gun grease in the same manner everytime the clutch is pushed in with the tractor running. Have you noticed a puddle of motor oil on the floor/ground under the tractor when it sits like overnight? Oil being thinner would most likely run out of the inspection plate/hole making the rear seal suspect. Grease being thicker would really have to be excessive and then very warm to run out.
