Did anybody drive their tractors to school?

I was just wondering if anybody else drove their tractor to school today or if you are anytime this week for FFA. I was having throttle problems with my 350. The throttle would only open up about 1/2 way. My guess is I might have had some ice or somthing in the carb. So instead of missing out on all of the fun I loaded the tractor up and hauled it to school and drove it around the parking lot at idle. Our chapter had 5 people drive tractors today. This number is up from the 3 tractors last year. I would like to see more people drive but our school district stretches about 20 miles all directions from our H.S., that would be one long ride. In case some of you are wondering what I am talking about, this week is National FFA week. Many chapters do different activities through out the week. I know several chapters do drive tractors.

Well, If I hadn't graduated early, I was gonna drive the JD 8650, and leave a note on the door reading "TOW IT", because the principal threatened to tow all the lawn tractors everyone drove a couple years ago. My H.S. also doesn't have an FFA chapter, which really sucks. I hate living with suburbanites. Getting out of H.S. 1/2 a year early was the best thing I ever did.

My senior year of high school me and my buddy drove our tractors to school. We were also told not to but did any ways, I drove my JD A with duals, took up 2 spots and my buddy drove there 4430. It was a great site to see them in the parking lot even made it in the year book.

Not this week in Michigan but the school system we live does a day in the spring that the kids can drove their farm equipment to school. This spring my son will drive the BN to school.

I have been thinking of driving my M to the Air Force Base where I work. I just need registration and proof of insurance to get a base sticker. Colorado does have Farm Tractor plates available. I can easily get a rider on my automobile insurance to cover taking the tractor on the road occasionally.

I just want to see the faces on the guys at Pass & ID when they ask "what kind of car is it?" "It's a 1951 Farmall model M." I want to see the faces of the guys at the gate when I drive up on the Farmall. Hee Hee.

Today is Tractor Day at Logan View High School at Hooper, Nebraska. There were 12 tractors this year. I will have some pictures later.

Adam----Are you sure your dad didn't have something to do with your 350's inability to go faster than half throttle? I think I'd ask him before I did any extensive work on it. I can remember this sort of thing going on when I was a kid. JP in NY

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I drove it around at idle when I got there. After school it started right up and ran just fine. I think it was just a little tired that morning. He would have had to do somthing to all of the tractors. I didn't tell him until that morning which of the 5 I was taking.

I restored 2 tractors in vo-ag shop. I didn't haul them. I drove them there, restored them, and then drove them home. Done one my junior year 92-3, and the other my senior year 93-4. Before and after photo's are really neat to look at. Local chapter had a worst truck day a few years ago. Everybody drove there old beat up farm truck to school. A panel of judges was put together to judge wich truck was the worst beat up, ran the worst and so on.

I drove my new Mahindra to school this time last year, but not for Ag/FFA. I teach Technology Education and we just happened to be covering hydraulic principles. Plus to show off my new ride!

Hi Chet, Was just wondering what model you got? I looked at them a liitle while back and felt the quality was pretty good. I ended up buying a used Massey with a front loader but I thought the Mahindra was a descent value for the price.

I have the 4500 4WD w/FEL. I could not find anything else with the same features for that price, plus 3 yr 0% financing and 3 yr warranty. It has performed flawlessly so far, got 70 hours on it mostly square baling and brushogging, but the loader works great for moving round bales also. I could not find anything I liked in the used world that was not either worn out or wanted a new price for, so I am tickled with the decision to buy a new tractor. Plus it's RED! Almost matches my Super C and does not clash with my red MF #12 square bailer:}( yea, I'm partial)

We drive tractors ro school every year in the end of may before all the big tests start. We ahd 15 tractors and lawn mowers there last year, even some of the teachers drove them. I drove my grandfathers H, but we had anything from a sanpper to a JD 4020.
I do agree it is awsome to see all the tractors in a row in the parking lot.

Yep, well, I haven't actually done it yet, but will be next week. It is about 10 miles so I have to leave kinda early. Seems like everyone always wants to drive all the new junk, me? I stick with the good ole 706 Diesel, goes kinda fast so it ain't too bad. Hope it don't get too cold, or she might not start at school. It usually starts down to 0 degrees Farenheit, so I should be alright. BTW, our school has about 400 people, and we had 29 tractors last year. Sure was cool seein all them tractors in a row.

Not lately but in 1964 in NC I drove a 1949
Oliver 77 to school for as with you I was in the FFA. Of course at that time alot showed up - Case,
John Deere, Farmall, Alis Chalmers, etc.
Times have sure changed but for some of us it never will and for the rest - their loss!!!!! !!!

This brings back memories of when I was teaching in a farming community. We did not have Vo-Ag but one day near the end of the year the boys would drive tractors to school and would sing "Thank God I Am A Country Boy" in the halls and some of the girls would sing "Mommas Don't Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" This created no problems but allowed this part time farmer to discover a common interest with the students. These students now have families and are still my friends.

The school I used to teach at would not allow it. Said it would disrupt the flow of traffic and cause other concerns- in reality just another way to strangle the VO AG department. If the band would have wanted to walk to school in the middle of traffic playing a tune they would have recieved a full endorsement. If the spanish club wanted to ride burros to school-just fine. And so on. Ultimately their goal was to dismantle and undermine the effectiveness of the program, hence eliminating salaries, associated costs, and freeing up facilities for more favored programs. To put it in a farmers perseptive it would be like having 20 calves in a dry lot-feeding them one bale of hay a day then complaining about a lack of daily gain-then selling calves. The local program is currently suffering under 1- a 27 year veteran who refuses to change and by complacency is allowing the program to die-fits into hands of school board, 2-a local farm bureau that is totally inactive and lacks a guided philosphy of vo ag, 3-a superintendant who is ag illterate and is glad to see the program go-does not fit into his concept of a school program-his words "no interest in agriculture anymore, students do not need agriculture instruction, does not fit into total school program", 4-a high school principal who parrells the superintendant and is basically a lacky for his boss, 5-a counselor who openly discriminates against agriculture when scheduling classes, 6-an agriculture community whos leadership is excessively weak and wants the local vo-ag program to work for them instead of wanting to support the program, 7-school codes and policies that when enforced alienates students and decreases enrollment, in essence destroying electives especially when required course teachers do not enforce those codes. No tractors needed at this school district-they have Kroger

It was about 12* last year when I drove my M the 6-7 miles to school. I had on every stitch of clothing I had and was still freezing when I got there. It was just me and one other guy who drove a big 4wd massey.

In October I drove my 40 B to work to get me check then went to the Bank and went thru the drive up and cashed it. I had to back up to the teller tube thing because I sit on the right hand side. But it was fun!!
